We’re blessed at First Christian to have a rich heritage of innovative and high-quality music programs. There’s something here to match the tastes of all members of our congregation, as well as welcome visitors to our church! Our music programs include:
The Singers lead the 11:15 a.m. New Celebration Worship Service every Sunday and also perform at other special events. Currently, the band uses guitars, keyboards, drums and percussion, and is always interested in experienced singers and instrumentalists. The Celebration Singers rehearse on Thursdays at 5:30 p.m.
The choir sings at the 9:00 a.m. traditional worship service on Sundays and offers special music during the year. Anyone who enjoys singing is welcome to join. If you’ve been thinking you might like to wear a choir robe on Sunday mornings, come check us out. We’re a fun group of awfully nice people! The Chancel Choir rehearses each Wednesday from 7:30–8:30 p.m.
The Handbell Choir rehearses each Wednesday at 6:00 p.m. The choir performs at the 9:00 a.m. traditional worship service each month and presents special performances during the year. New ringers are always welcome. No experience necessary as instruction is part of the weekly rehearsals. If you have any questions about joining, please call the church, (541) 344-1425 for more information.
The Historic First Christian Church Organ
In 1913, the organ was built and installed by the Esty Organ Company at a cost of $1,300.
The original console was attached to the case of the organ and was later detached and replaced with a modern remote console. The Esty organ was installed with 18 ranks of pipes and after several modifications and a major rebuild currently has 35 ranks.
The organ is maintained by Lanny Hochhalter of Salem, OR. Through the generous gifts of members of the First Christian Church community, the organ is constantly being refined and improved upon. Future modifications may include replacement of some of the more fragile or damaged pipes from the original organ.
The pipe organ has played a significant role in the tradition of protestant worship for centuries. First Christian Church is proud to carry on that tradition in weekly services of worship, special services, weddings, and community events throughout the year.
If you would like more information about the instruments of First Christian Church, or would like a tour of the organ, please contact Dr. John Jantzi, Organist and Director of The Handbell Choir.
