Gathering of Materials For Christmas Gift Bags
As we move into November we turn our sights to the coming of the Christ child. One of the most significant ways we do that here at First Christian Church is our act of bringing gifts for children and youth in need. Through this action we embody our preparation for the coming of the Christ child who we see in children and youth who receive these Christmas gift bags. Once again this year we will give Christmas gift bags to 150 children and youth. So let us begin to fill those bags during November. Here is the list of weekly items for the “gathering.” As part of your worship each Sunday bring your items and place them in the bins in the back of the sanctuary. On the last Sunday (November 27) we will “gift” the tree by placing our items beneath it during our “Hanging of the Greens” worship. Let us remember whose birthday we are preparing for as we buy gifts for “the Christ child” who lives in our very community today.
November 6: Gloves (for Preschool through High School; mittens for infants)
November 13: Hats (for Infants through High School)
November 20: Scarfs (for Middle School and High School)
November 27: Small toys (for 1 year old through High School)
Hanging of the Greens Pre-Party
Saturday November 26, 9am – 12pm, Sanctuary
Help your pastors prepare the sanctuary for the Sunday morning worship experience! Bring the whole family – bring friends – there are fun jobs for everyone like unpacking ornaments, hoisting the tree, hanging the prayer stars and dusting off the nativity scene. We will serve coffee & refreshments and play holiday music to inspire you.
Hanging of the Greens
Sunday, November 27, 10:30 a.m. Single Service
This is an annual event where we have a single service at 10:30 a.m. to harken in the celebration of Jesus by decorating the tree and hanging greens around the sanctuary. We have an Advent Workshop later in the day at 4:00 p.m. to make crafts and be merry.
Sunday, November 27, 4-7 p.m.
Come for some traditional crafts like gingerbread houses, pinecone bird feeders, and wreath making. Lots of new crafts too. Fun for all ages. Cost of event: $3 per person and a $10 maximum per family. Bring in 3 cans of food and admission is only $1!
Please bring finger foods to share with guests- healthy treats are helpful too. If you have fresh greens to lend for wreaths, please contact the office to schedule a pickup 541.344.1425. Volunteers are needed in all areas — craft making, decorating, cleanup, kitchen crew. Sign up in the back of the sanctuary on Sunday mornings or contact Jean Kozlowski at 541-343-2701, Linda Bright 541-688-3255 or Sharon Bettelyoun 541-344-9814
